Frequently asked questions.

  • In Ontario, the practice of psychotherapy is regulated under the Psychotherapy Act, 2007, and the Regulated Health Professions Act, 1991 (RHPA). The RHPA identifies certain activities as "controlled acts" due to the potential risks involved if performed by unqualified individuals. One of these is the controlled act of psychotherapy, defined as:

"Treating, by means of psychotherapy technique, delivered through a therapeutic relationship, an individual’s serious disorder of thought, cognition, mood, emotional regulation, perception or memory that may seriously impair the individual’s judgment, insight, behaviour, communication or social functioning."

To perform the controlled act of psychotherapy in Ontario, practitioners must be members of one of the six regulatory colleges authorized to do so, including the CRPO. This ensures that only qualified professionals provide psychotherapy services, safeguarding the public's right to safe, competent, and ethical care

  • Therapy can be beneficial for anyone seeking support, clarity, or a new perspective. If you’re experiencing stress, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, or simply want to understand yourself better, therapy can help.

On our own, it’s possible to fall into patterns of self-deception—remaining stuck in habitual ways of thinking and acting that may harm ourselves or others. Not all of us are eager to bring these deceptions into the light. However, sharing our stories with a therapist or a trusted person can help uncover these hidden truths, allowing us to confront them with compassion and courage.

Much like walking on a pilgrimage, we need guideposts to mark the way. Unless we are looking and open to them, we may miss the signs that point us in the right direction. Sometimes, we need a fellow pilgrim to walk with us, to show us where the next yellow arrow is and help us stay on the path that leads to our true destination. Therapy offers that companionship and guidance as you navigate your journey.

  • The first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other. We’ll discuss your concerns, goals, and expectations for therapy. It’s also a chance for you to ask questions and determine if we’re a good fit.

  • The duration of therapy depends on your individual needs and goals. My approach is similar to that of a physiotherapist rather than a chiropractor—I aim to equip you with the skills and tools you need to become independent and capable of managing challenges on your own. While some clients may benefit from a few sessions to address specific issues, others may engage in therapy for a longer period as they work through deeper concerns. Together, we’ll determine the pace and duration that best supports your growth and healing.

  • Typically, sessions are held weekly or bi-weekly, but this can be adjusted based on your preferences and progress.

  • Yes, confidentiality is a cornerstone of therapy. Everything discussed in sessions is private, except in cases where there is a legal obligation to disclose (e.g., risk of harm to yourself or others).

  • I offer both virtual and in-person therapy sessions to suit your needs. Additionally, I provide walking therapy, where we meet at an outdoor location to engage in therapy while walking in nature. My in-person sessions take place in the Beach, Toronto, ON, located near Queen Street East and Victoria Park Ave. Virtual sessions are conducted through the Jane App.
